Testimonials

"Dear Sharon, Joe, Connie & TCI Support Team,

A heartfelt “thank you” for a truly transformational 7 days! TCI’s NLP Practitioner training quite literally turned my life around. No doubt about it.

I’ve been pain-free since I completed the course. That’s following 18 years of ‘doing’ fibromyalgia. I even cured myself of restless leg syndrome. If faced with a health ‘challenge’, I just ask myself “how am I doing this?” and presto it’s gone.

Controlling my ‘state’, I discovered, isn’t limited to health. The weekend following our NLP training, I put in an awesome paddle at the Corporate Games - Outrigger Canoeing held at Docklands.

Thanks to the TCI team, I’m living purposefully and with passion, creating the world I really want. My map of the world has changed irrevocably.

Now to pass that gift along...

In light & love,"

These values are extremely important to The Coaching Institute, its founder Sharon Pearson and her team who deliver nothing less than the values which they teach. John and I are both students with TCI and would not hesitate in recommending their training programs to anyone who is passionate about inspiring people through coaching to reach their full potential. <$title$> Hello,

I heard a great comment recently: "Those who commit to complete are living the definition of excellence".

I like this because then I know what I need to do to achieve the results I want... I must commit to complete that which I begin. Sometimes that's REALLY inconvenient, but whenever I follow this Golden Rule, I get much better results than when I don't. The fallout from this is that I get to feel great about myself... Low self-esteem seems to be in epidemic proportions and I wonder if it could be partly resolved by following this Golden Rule?

The theme for this month is "The Golden Rules to Your Success Life". I know from my own experience and from my clients that if we are prepared to do what needs to be done, rather than what makes us feel safe and comfortable, we will achieve FAR more than we ever imagined we could.

I see too many people staying trapped within their comfort zones, wanting change but not taking ANY steps to make it happen.. You can guess which direction their self-esteem is heading.

As a Coach of people who are committed to being the best version of themselves they can be, you get to lead by example with Golden Rule Number 2: Do What Needs to Be Done, Complete It, and Enjoy The Results!

To your success,

Sharon

Conversations with a Master Coach

Rachel AnastasiQ:

I am a lady in her mid 30's who suffers anxiety on a level of fear and worry. I have a pattern of it happening around that time of the month more, and this has been more ongoing. I feel at times my anxiety and negative thought patterns overtakes my life in ways and brings me down on a low level of feeling tired, drained and unhappy and cranky.

I am in a relationship with a very kind hearted, caring, loyal, loving man who gives me everything i have always wanted, as i was married in my past and lacked these qualities in my marriage.

Its like lately I’m never happy with what i have and always want more and more .I want to learn to love me more and love myself and be the happy girl i know i am somewhere inside.

A:

Thankyou so much for your question. I believe that you speak for many people out there who seem to have everything that they want, however still feel unhappy. You hit the nail on the head when you spoke of loving and accepting yourself unconditionally.

You must let go of unresourceful self talk and limiting beliefs about yourself and empower yourself instead with positive beliefs and reinforcement. What limiting beliefs do you get to gather evidence for when you do anxiety? If you loved yourself unconditionally, what would you do? If you took those actions what would you have?

Remember that anxiety is a strategy that you run. It is a step by step process that you do. You don’t know it as a process as your unconscious mind has certain anchors that one part of the strategy will activate the next. Sit down and write out what happens from start to finish when you do an anxiety strategy. What needs to happen first? When do you know it is time to do anxiety? Concentrate on interrupting the strategy next time, which will make it harder for your brain to run the pattern.

Anytime there is anxiety in life it is because you are thinking about the future and things not working out the way that you want it to be. Think about the way you want things to be and trust in the process. What you focus on is what you get. Live in the moment and aim to let go of the past and the future and just focus on the right now.

Start keeping a gratitude journal. Write in it for five minutes each day, what are you most grateful for in your life? Living with an attitude of gratitude can make it easy to come from a space of happiness. Remember your feelings are your choice, it is not who you are. I recommend that you seek out some coaching to address anything from your past that is holding you back.

The Golden Rules to Your Successful Life

By Sharon Pearson, CEO The Coaching Institute

There are some simple rules that when applied can create shocking improvements in our lives. They’re not secrets, they’re in plain sights, but they’re not taught, at least not in any school, and it’s the disciplined reader who will stumble upon them.

Here they are, and enjoy the results!

Golden Rule Number 1:
There is no failure except the failure to get up and keep going

Golden Rule Number 2:
Commit to Complete, always. High quality people do this without fanfare.

Golden Rule Number 3:
Do what needs to be done, not what you need to be comfortable.

Golden Rule Number 4:
Don’t question other people’s motives, focus on your responsibility to lead by example.

Golden Rule Number 5:
Get educated by people who are already getting the results you want.

Golden Rule Number 6:
“Zag” when everyone “zigs”. Don’t do what is predictably mediocre. There is enough of this in the world. Do what will cause you to shine, because you (1) went the extra mile; (2) did more than you were asked to; (3) delivered above and beyond expectations

Golden Rule Number 7:
Don’t waste time blaming, shaming or denying. If it’s not working, it’s up to you to change it. Not anyone else. They’re doing the best they can. If you know better, be better.

Golden Rule Number 8:
Don’t deal with your “stuff” at work or anywhere else it isn’t invited. Bill Gates said this last year and I think it’s great advice!

Golden Rule Number 9:
Make more decisions... You have approximately 80 summers... The more decisions you make, the great your self-esteem... the greater your self-esteem, the more adventures you’ll have... the more adventures you have, the greater the self-esteem...

Golden Rule Number 10:
Make your life mean something to others through your contribution.

Golden Rule Number 11:
Appreciate all you have, all others do for you, (even when it’s not perfect!), celebrate others’ success, be grateful for who you love.

“HOW I COLD CALLED AND GOT MY FIRST PAYING CLIENT”

By Robyn O’Sullivan

I hear the groans “cold calling” – it can make some shudder, others weak at the knees. I ask the question, “what would happen to your business if you embraced cold calling and made it something you did easily and effortlessly?” Cold calling is one of the easiest ways to find clients, build a database and grow your business.

Does it make cold calling more palatable if you think of it in terms of using persuasive language and offering a client incredible value. I ask the question, isn’t this what we do with our clients in a coaching session? What is the difference?

You could be the best coach in the country, but if your target market doesn’t know you are in business – you have NO business.

The Golden Rules of cold calling:

A Be certain, be confident, be fun and be willing to give value to the people you are talking to.

B Confidence won’t tap you on the shoulder, it will arrive as you are picking up the phone and doing the cold calls. SHOW UP AND STEP UP

C Cold Calling is a numbers game (some will, some won’t, so what, move on). There is no failure only FEEDBACK

D Be focused and organized. Before the cold calling session begins have all the names and phone numbers ready (this will prevent you from being distracted and stopping the session to find new people to call)

E Have a clear goal for the session
1) I will make ______ appointments,
2) I will book _____ complimentary sessions,
3) I will have ____ contacts for my database that are willing to receive my marketing literature.

F Don’t stop until you have achieved your goals

G Cold calling works if you make the calls

How I cold called my way to my first paying client and database:

Decide on a niche that has access to the types of clients you would like to attract to your coaching business i.e. chiropractors, real estate agents etc.

Open the Yellow Pages, industry directory etc and with confidence and certainty pick up the phone and begin cold calling.

A sample script could be “ Hi, my name is Robyn O’Sullivan, I run a life coaching practice “Thought Works” and am looking to build relationships with Chiropractors in the area. To kick-start this relationship, I would love to send you some vouchers offering a complimentary coaching session from you to any of your clients or staff. So you can experience first hand the value your clients will be receiving from coaching, I would love to offer you a session. Fantastic, what time would suit you best (provide two alternative times).

a) When they book a time for a complimentary session ask for their contact details and tell them that you will be emailing them a Client Profile for them to complete etc. Tell them that the vouchers will arrive in ____ days and accompanying information will arrive by email. Thank them for their time and tell them how much you are looking forward to the coaching session.

b) If they decline your offer of a complimentary session for themselves “That’s fine what street address will I send the vouchers to. Can I also have your email address so I can send some other information to you. Great, thanks very much. My details will be on the email so you can send me your business card and any literature you would like me to have available to my clients about your business. Thank you very much, I look forward to talking to you again soon”.

Record the contact details onto your database

Make sure the vouchers and literature arrive in the timeframe promised.

Make a follow up call to make sure they received the information, answer any questions and talk about how you can best assist them build their business.

Continue to market to your newly formed database and always think about how you can best serve and continue to deliver outstanding value.

GOOD LUCK

If you would like further information about how to cold call or other prospecting ideas, please call me on 0412 095 017 or email robyn@thoughtworkscoaching.com.au

Coaching Corner with Lisa Wiking

Becoming an expert in human behaviour, one of the first things I learnt about in Coaching was that of motivation. Understanding how ‘motivation’ works, means that you are able to gain the results you are looking for, with ‘purpose’ rather than a hit and miss outcome. There are two types of motivation, one where you are motivated towards something that you want, and the other is to move away from what you don’t want.

The thing is that we all have a natural style, that we prefer, and without the awareness, simply your preferred style could be effecting your results! For a lot of people, it is to move away from what you don’t want. The thing with this style is that, it’s ok to move away from what you don’t want, but that means you will get anything but that.

So you have to also be clear on what you do want. This is very common for people who want to lose weight, and often gives very inconsistent results. For example, imagine, someone who wants to lose weight and they are moving away motivated. They get fed up with being ‘fat’ and decide “That’s it, I am joining a gym, I’m going to watch what I eat, and get fit”.

Now that’s great for a while and the motivation is there – until they start to lose weight. All of a sudden, they get to the point where they are no longer ‘fat’ anymore, and they lose all motivation. Sound familiar?? So they go back to their old ways because there is no longer a need for ‘motivation’.

So what these people must also do, is decide on and focus on what you do want – so that they know where you are heading ‘to be fit with vibrant health.’

Knowing this whilst keeping a very clear picture of what they don’t want close by, will mean that they are able to remain motivated, and also move towards a sense of inspiration! If you prefer the ‘moving towards’ style, then you most likely love to create the picture in your mind of what it might look and feel like, you also, most likely have laser like focus.

This is where you move towards having a sense of inspiration, because you are thinking and imagining what your results will give you.

This is absolutely the strategy that will help you get more consistent results. Whatever your preferred style, now you know, what you must do in order to create the results you are looking for!!

Motivation

By Helen Treloar, Forward Momentum Coaching Pty Ltd.

12 Steps to Motivation In The Workplace.

- Why do we need it?
- What is it?
- How do we get it?

WHY?

The word “‘motivation” is widely used by all employees in their day to day lives. It seems to attract negative press more than positive. Example: I lack motivation, I can’t get motivated to do this, I’m waiting for motivation, my job doesn’t motivate me and my boss fails to motivate me….”

Managers often talk of motivation in the same theme; “I don’t know how to motivate my staff, my employees lack motivation, my team has inconsistent levels of motivation.”

The presupposition in all of the above statements is that motivation is required to act.

The implication is that if we do not have motivation we have no action.

We therefore need motivation to achieve desired goals in business.

WHAT?

Per a Google browse “What is Motivation?”
“The psychological feature that arouses an organism to action toward a desired goal; the reason for the action; that which gives purpose and ...
“The condition of being motivated; "his motivation was at a high level"
The act of motivating; providing incentive

Motivation is the reason or reasons for engaging in a particular behavior, especially human behavior as studied in philosophy, conflict, economics, psychology, and neuropsychology. These reasons may include basic needs such as food or a desired object, hobbies, goal, state of being, or ideal. ...

What is the difference between motivation & inspiration?

Per a Google browse “What is Inspiration?”

“arousal of the mind to special unusual activity or creativity “
“a product of your creative thinking and work; "he had little respect for the inspirations of other artists"; "after years of work his brainchild was a tangible reality"
“a sudden intuition as part of solving a problem”
“divine guidance: (theology) a special influence of a divinity on the minds of human beings; "they believe that the books of Scripture were written under divine guidance"
“arousing to a particular emotion or action”
“inhalation: the act of inhaling; the drawing in of air (or other gases) as in breathing”

Seems to me that one could argue that motivation and inspiration are somewhat similar, they are a call to action.

My take on this matter, after the reading, study and discussion on human behavior, is as follows:

Motivation: The ability to achieve goals through DOING (actions).

Inspiration: The ability to create goals through THINKING (imagination).

Motivation comes AFTER a decision to act. Motivation increases in line with increased action and outcomes.

Think of the last time you felt completely motivated. Was it when you were on the trail of getting fit, or the months whilst avoiding making a firm decision about when and how your regime towards better health would start?

Motivating staff.

Part of every manager’s job is that of motivating their teams to achieve company goals. It seems to be a fundamental skill that is not taught or naturally assumed. We mistake motivation for incentives. Bonus plans, cakes, birthday gifts, BBQ’s and celebrations. These acts are indeed (in my opinion) very important, as they add to the creation of a culture. They do not motivate people to achieve goals. It is very possible to have an employee working for an organization they love but not feeling motivated to grow or enjoying their role. People like comfort, we (humans) are creatures of habit, and our habits are driven by the emotional need for safety and comfort. Fact is what keeps us safe in the 21st century only keeps us small.

THE 12 STEPS TO MOTIVATED STAFF:

For an employee to be or feel motivated there needs to be a basic process acknowledged and adhered to:

  1. Know your employee as an individual (DISC, modality, pattern and EQ).
  2. See your employee as magnificent, able and capable.
  3. Inspire your employee with consistent acts of growth and fearlessness in your own behavior.
  4. Behave in a manner that is consistent, at cause, vulnerable and capable at all times. Be reliable and dependable.
  5. Conspire to your employees’ success. Set them goals that stretch them little by little to coerce them gently to a new performance and awareness. Give them evidence to see they will not combust into flames when they step up.
  6. Use MOVING TOWARDS language at all times and hold your employees to the same rule. Example: I don’t want to do that task. Would be met with the question: what do you want instead? This keeps all employees aligned with goals not stuck in story & below the line (at effect).
  7. Trust your employee. Empower them with appropriate responsibility and allow them to fail as they go, seeking only feed-back not reasons so they learn and move on swiftly.
  8. Celebrate growth – no matter how small.
  9. Get out of your employees way – they may be better at the job than you are.
  10. Ask your employee for a decision every day – build the muscle of empowered decision making. To not make a decision is a decision in itself.
  11. Help your employee to set goals and report action intended and then taken to achieve the goal.
  12. Have a keen willingness for EQ in your management above IQ.

Motivation comes from action. Motivation comes from confidence rising. Motivation comes from achieved results.

The key is to be clear on the vision and get your employees to buy-in to it. If you do not have your employees support to achieve shared goals, you will not be able to build motivation. Motivation can be resourceful or unresourceful. Piss a disgruntled employee off enough and they will have high motivation to bring you undone through actions that are harmful to you and the business.

Motivation is a powerful tool that managers can use with ease, if they only see their employees as the profit as opposed to the products creating profit. Great profit comes from motivated teams of people united to achieve a shared vision.

Here’s to motivated success.
